The Tipperary Under 20 footballers were beaten by Kerry last night.
The sides met in New Inn in the first round of phase two of the Munster championship where it ended Kerry 2-19 Tipperary 1-10.
Kerry played with a strong breeze in the first half and led 1-09 to 0-04 thanks to a Tomás Kennedy goal.
The wind faded completely in the second half with Tipp failing to convert multiple goal chances before Ben Carey eventually broke through to reduce the deficit to six points however the visitors finished strong with a Daniel Kirby goal in additional time.
Speaking after the game, Tipp selector Paddy O’Gorman said missed goal opportunities cost the Premier.
“I think there was probably three goal chances – there might even have been one more – and we just didn’t take them. Against a team like Kerry you have to take every chance that you get. They punish you – they’re so economical – every time they get up there they nearly get a score.
“We knew that coming into it that if we didn’t take our scores we’d be under pressure but look going forward going into the next game we did create those goal chances against Kerry so that’s a good thing for us.”
Next up for Tipp is a home tie with Clare next Tuesday night at a Tipp venue.
Danny Miskella scored 1-4 as Cork kickstarted their campaign with a 3-16 to 1-13 win over Clare.
