The Premier lost out to Cork in FBD Semple Stadium after extra time on a final scoreline of 2-17 to 0-20.
A second half goal from Donagh Flynn helped Cork to five point lead in the final quarter but Tipperary battled back with captain Ned O’Meara scoring the equalising free to send the game to additional time.
The sides traded scores in the additional period before Cork substitute Joe Miskella won the game for the Rebels with a goal from close range.
The game was the third in as many weeks for Tipp and their second game in 7 days to go to extra-time and speaking after the final whistle Tipp joint manager Michael Donnellan said his players can hold their heads high after their performance.
“It is disappointing. A lot of people around here feel the better team lost today but look it is what it is – the goal right at the end is a killer blow. But super, super proud of the boys and their performance – it was unbelievable. I said it to them out there in the bunch three weeks in a row they’re after giving three unbelievable performances. They showed great character and they’re really showed they can be a driving force for the future of Tipperary football.”
Tipp will be back in action on Saturday in the second tier All-Ireland Minor Championship with the draw for that knockout game to be made today.
