The chairman of the CCCC has dismissed allegations by Dublin football manager Jim Gavin that the media influenced the decision to impose a 12 week ban on Diarmuid Connolly.

In an extraordinary press conference, Gavin labelled some of the coverage as “bile” and refused to grant one-on-one interviews to broadcast media.

Connolly won’t feature for the Dubs until a potential All-Ireland semi-final as a result of the suspension.

Gavin was particularly critical of RTE and The Sunday Game over their coverage of the issue, and said many similar incidents have since gone unnoticed.

He was then asked in what way was Connolly attacked by the media.
