The Tipperary Senior Footballers were beaten in their Tailteann Cup opener yesterday.
The Premier lost out to Sligo in Tubbercurry on a final scoreline of 2-15 to 2-10.
Goals from Paudie Feehan and Sean O’Connor kept Tipp in touch in the first half but the hosts finished strongly to earn the five point victory.
Speaking after the game, Tipp selector Paul Cahill was taking positives from the performance.
“We’re disappointed with the end result but the performance I think was encouraging. A small few things coming down the home stretch – we were unlucky that we hit the crossbar with a ball. And that’s the difference – I think that would have put us a point or two up and they broke and got a point or two down the other end just to stretch it out again. But look that’s how close we came to it – the thickness of a post to put us in front – a huge turning point.”
Next up for Tipp is the visit of Kildare to Clonmel on Saturday May 17th at 4pm.
