Battle to secure home advantage for football decider

Discussions are underway with the Munster Council about the venue for this years provincial football final between Tipp and Cork.

The Premier County feel the game should be in Semple Stadium while the Rebels want it in Páirc uí Chaoimh.

Tipp and Cork are due to meet in the Munster Senior Football final on Sunday week.

The venue hinges on the understanding of the home and away arrangement between the two counties.

Tipp say they are due a Munster final from the replay of the 2002 decider between the sides. That year the drawn game was in Semple Stadium and since then Tipp and Cork have not played each other in a Munster final.

It’s believed Cork feel that since the open draw it’s a home and away arrangement for all Munster championship games with 2018 the last one against Cork which was a semi-final in Thurles.

Tipp County Board secretary Tim Floyd says there is a difference of opinion and they are in discussion with the Munster Council in relation to agreements there since 2002.
