Patrick O’Loughlin of Panduit Carrick Wheelers claimed a hard-fought win at the Kilteely GP yesterday sprinting to victory at the end of a gripping 90km contest.
The race hosted by Greenmount Cycling Academy in Limerick was over 12 laps of a rolling 7.5km circuit.
The main race featured both C1 and C2 category riders, with the latter enjoying a five-minute head start.
With four laps to go, the C1s made contact with the front of the race, setting the stage for a dramatic finale.
A series of aggressive moves followed, with O’Loughlin going clear in a 5-man break which included two riders from the Velo-Performance squad.
Despite the Velo Performance pair attempting to play their numbers on the final lap with repeated attacks, the group held together heading into the final long drag up into Kilteely.
In the end, O’Loughlin proved to have the sharpest kick and took home the win.
