Tipperary’s Sam Bennett picked up his second win in three days at the Tour de la Provence yesterday.
The Carrick man took the 190 kilometres final stage in Arles yesterday to add to his victory in Friday’s opening stage.
The Decathlon AG2R la Mondiale rider admitted it was a tough day in the saddle.
“I thought it was going to be a lot easier – the group that was away was quite a strong one and they were trying to move up on G.C so we had to go quite hard in the peloton. It just made the race a bit more hard on the legs after the last two days. But the guys did a fantastic job in the final helping me position.
“We got a little bit caught out at I think 3 kilometres to go – we were super far back but they managed to get me back and I tried to come from the back with speed and it worked. I thought it was too early but I could hold them off.”
