Browne rocked by first round stoppage

There was disappointment for Tipperary’s Shauna Browne last night.

The Clonmel woman suffered the first defeat of her professional boxing career at the SSE Arena in Belfast.

Browne was beaten in the first round by the undefeated and now 10-0 Turkish fighter Elif Nur Turhan.

Nur Turhan landed a perfect left hook early which downed Browne, by the time the Clonmel woman got back to her feet the referee called a stop to the action after 47 seconds.

Shauna had been hoping to become the mandatory challenger for the WBC lightweight world title, held by Caroline Dubois.
