The Irish Mixed 4×400 relay team – anchored by Tipperary’s Sharlene Mawdsley – are through to tomorrows final at the World Relay Championships in China.
The Newport athlete took over the baton for the last leg in 3rd place behind Poland and the USA.
She overtook the Poles to take second at the line and automatic qualification for tomorrows decider.
It also means the Irish quartet have secured qualification for the World Athletic Championships in Tokyo.
Sharlene gave her reaction to Athletics Ireland after the heat.
“Yeah I’m so happy with that. I was actually quite happy I got the baton in 3rd because I had something to work towards. Top 2 was automatic qualification and it ticked the box.
“I was put in such a great position but I was absolutely delighted to overtake on the bend and hold on to clinch that 2nd place.
The Irish time of 3-12-56 was a seasons best for them and the 4th quickest from the three heats behind the United States, Belgium and Australia.
