Sharlene Mawdsley ends season on a high.

The Newport native won the 400m at the Gala dei Castelli meet in Bellinzona in Switzerland last night

Mawdsley ran a time of 51.35 seconds to beat fellow Olympians Susanne Gogi-Walli of Austria and Lieke Klaver of the Netherlands among others.

The win caps off what has been Mawdsley’s best season to date where she became an Olympian and a world and European relay medallist.Luke McCann was just eight-tenths of a second off Mark English’s national best in placing second in the Men’s 800-metres there.

English himself was third in that race.

And Sarah Lavin was fifth in the Women’s 100-metres hurdles, a race won by the Olympic bronze medallist Jasmine Camacho-Quinn.
