Liam Kearns men saw off the challenge from Louth in an action packed encounter at Croke Park this evening.
After a sluggish start which saw Tipperary clock up their first point of the game after 9 mins to Louth’s 3, the game came alive 30 minutes in when Liam Casey scored the Premier’s first goal 4 minutes from half time and by the break Tipp were leading 1-11 to Louth’s 0-09 points.
The Wee County made somewhat of a comeback through Ryan Burns in the earlier part of the second half but a flurry of points followed by a Connor Sweeney goal in the 48th minute put Tipp’s lead at 2-15 to 0-14. With 12 minutes to go Liam Kearns’s men were 6 points ahead keeping Louth at bay and following point for point scoring Sweeney once again found the back of the net deep into injury time and Tipperary secured victory on a score line of 3-19 to 0-19.
Speaking afterwards manager Liam Kearns said “the whole campaign has been pleasing in so far as we got the job done and we’ve blooded a lot of players” and he added that ” the Championship was our aim” and “we’ll hold our own in Division 2″ Citing a number of other players he expects to see return to to fold in the coming weeks he also told Tipp FM and other reporters that he doesn’t expect to see Peter Acheson coming back this time adding ” it was a big loss”.
