Tipperary’s 1961 All-Ireland senior hurling winning captain Matt Hassett has passed away.
The Toomevara native, born in 1932, captained the Premier to a one-point win over Dublin in the decider 64 years ago, becoming the first Toomevara club man to do so.
Hassett retired just two years later due to injury but continued life in the GAA by taking on numerous admistrative roles. with his club, the north board and the county board.
At the time of his passing, Matt was the president of the Tipperary county board. in the decider 64 years ago, becoming the first Toomevara club man to do so.
His funeral arrangements are below:
Reposing on Sunday April 6th at Keller’s Funeral Home, Nenagh (E45 XO94), from 5pm until 8pm.
Funeral arriving on Monday to St. Mary of the Rosary Church, Nenagh (E45 X522), for Funeral Mass at 12 noon, followed by burial in Lisboney Cemetery.
