5,000 local homes and businesses in the Clonmel area are benefitting from a more secure water supply.
Uisce Éireann has finished work on a new truck main which means customers on the Glenary supply are now being served directly from the reservoir and will be protected from 90-percent of all future problems at the treatment plant
It’s the biggest scheme in the Clonmel area but has had consistant problems with outages in recent years.
The new truck main will give up to 24-hours of water storage in the event of any future outages at the plant.
Portfolio manager with the utility Paul Cremin explains what this work has achieved:
This part of the project was the laying of 1.3 kilometers of water main from the Glenary water treatment plant to the Glenary reservoir. All the customers on the Glenary water supply scheme are served directly from the reservoir, which means in the case of an outage at the water treatment plant, and as you’re aware, we’ve had outages at that water treatment plant, there’s 24 hours of treated water storage in that reservoir to supply all the customers, so that provides them with a more secure and resilient water supply.
