Women to get preferential treatment for civil service jobs

If equally qualified men and women go for a job in the civil service, the woman will be given preference – according to a government Minister.

It’s after new documents showed the majority of management roles in government departments are held by men.

While women tend to occupy the lower down, clerical grades which pay less.

Minister Heather Humphreys says there’s no excuse for there to be a gender pay gap, and says government departments should be publishing their full pay figures.
