Well known Tipperary born sports journalist passes away.

A Tipperary native who was one of the country's best known print journalists has passed away.

John A. Murphy was well know for his work with the Irish Examiner down through the years.

Originally from Boherclough Street in Cashel, John A. started his career in journalism with the Dungarvan Observer in 1959 before moving on to the then Cork Examiner.

His final weekly column appeared in this weeks Waterford News & Star.

John A's in depth knowledge of the GAA led him to a spell as Chairman of the Waterford County Board – however he never lost his love of Tipperary and Tipp hurling.
