Welcome for North Tipperary road funding.

An allocation of almost €4 million towards the restoration of roads in North Tipperary has been welcomed by Deputy Noel Coonan.

Of the €4 million allocated under the restoration improvement scheme, North Tipperary County Council can transfer just over a million to the Discretionary Grant.

According to Deputy Coonan this will allow the local authority considerably more freedom in how they spend their roads grants and allow them to focus the money on emergency repairs.

Poor drainage has consistently been highlighted as an issue in the degradation of local roads in particular.

Transport Minister Leo Varadkar has created a fund of €2.7 million which can be used specifically to improve road drainage, remove surface water, repair the road surface and remove potholes – North Tipperary has  received a drainage grant of almost €73 thousand.
