Uisce Éireann say they are already noticing a drop in water levels in Tipperary as a result of the current dry spell.
While the weather is expected to change next week the utility is asking people to ensure water is not being wasted.
Colin Cunningham is Operations Lead with Uisce Éireann – he says they wouldn’t normally expect these levels for a number of months.
“We’re seeing signs at some of our treatment plants so it is quite early in the year. We’re seeing water levels dropping back whereas we would normally not see this until maybe June so we are probably two months earlier.
“It’s been very dry this year – people might say the weather hasn’t been great but there hasn’t been much rain levels.
People across the county are being asked to report any water leaks.
However Colin Cunningham says at this stage the utility is not considering any restrictions in Tipperary.
“We would ask people to be mindful of their water usage – so not to be wasting water. Check for any leaks and reporting any leaks that they come across as well.
“If we do get an extended dry spells we could get into pressure with of our schemes there where we potentially might have to look at restrictions but at this present time we’re monitoring water levels.”
