Lough Derg RNLI came to the assistance of a lone sailor on a 21ft yacht which has gone aground on the lake yesterday afternoon.

It follow an alert from a member of the public on shore that the vessel had become stuck on a sandbank northeast of Dromineer Bay

The crew were quickly at the scene where an RNLI volunteer went on board the yacht and found no ingress of water or damage to the hull.

Given the yacht’s location and the possibility of initiating another emergency response should the vessel be left where it was, the helm made the decision to take the vessel off the sandbank and towed it to safety in Dromineer Harbour.
