The Lough Derg RNLI was called to assist a lone skipper on a 40ft vessel that had fouled its propellers in rough weather and was adrift on the lake yesterday afternoon.
The alarm was raised by a person on shore around 4pm in Force 4 winds gusting to Force 6.
A passing vessel had attempted to assist the casualty but their tow line had parted in the conditions.
The RNLI crew were then informed that the skipper had managed to free the propellers and was making way to Garrykennedy.
The lifeboat volunteers found that the steering on the vessel was damaged and advised the skipper to remain in harbour until repairs were made before continuing their passage.
