Cruiser gets into difficulty on Lough Derg

Ten people have been rescued from the lake after their cruiser ran aground.

The Lough Derg RNLI Lifeboat from Dromineer and the Killaloe Coast Guard RIB were both called to the scene at the Scilly Islands at around 5.30pm on Saturday evening.

The 40 foot vessel was found aground to the north of the islands at 6 o’clock.

The people on the cruiser were unharmed and taken on board the Lough Derg Lifeboat and the Killaloe Coast Guard RIB and brought to Mountshannon Harbour.

The lifeboat and coastguard crews then returned to the cruiser and took it off the rocks before towing it to Mountshannon.
