A potential bogus collector is thought to be operating in North Tipperary.

A member of the public has raised concerns with Enable Ireland after a man claiming to be collecting for the charity asked for a cash donation as well as a direct debit mandate.

When the woman from Silvermines asked for ID the man retreated to his car and left.

The matter has been reported to the Gardai.

Enable Ireland is urging the public to be vigilant and to call the Enable Ireland centre in Nenagh on 067-34375 to verify any collections.

Genuine collectors carry either ID or a permit from Enable Ireland to fundraise on their behalf.
