Voting is underway in eastern Ukraine where pro-Russian militants have defied Moscow to hold a referendum on its independence from Ukraine.
People are voting to decide on whether the region will be governed by Kiev or Moscow.

But, the poll in Donetsk and Luhansk provinces has been declared illegal by both Kiev and the international community.
