A Pre-Amber Alert has been issued to all Irish Hospitals due to low blood stocks.
If the situation escalates to an Amber Alert , it will immediately impact hospitals and elective surgeries requiring blood support.
Health services are currently being asked to reduce their stock holding which enables the IBTS to manage the limited blood supply available more effectively across the country.
IBTS Director of Donor Services and Logistics, Paul McKinney says a consistently strong hospital demand for blood and the start of summer travel has had an impact on donor availability.
Because of this the Irish Blood Transfusion Services are putting on extra blood donation clinics locally.
They are on at the Dome at Semple Stadium in Thurles Monday the 15th of July from 4.50pm to 8.10pm.
The IBTS are asking donors to phone ahead for an appointment while Existing donors also have the option of pre-booking online.
