Bristol Myers Squibb, which already employs around 600 people here, is building a new manufacturing plant at its existing site in Cruiserath in Dublin 15.
1,000 will also be created during the construction phase at the biological medical company – expected to be completed in 2018.
Last March, Bristol Myers Squibb announced it was closing a separate plant at Cruiserath with the loss of 130 jobs.
A spokesperson for the company said that was still going ahead, and would be completed by the end of next year.
Tanaiste Joan Burton says today’s announcement highlights Ireland's strong performance in the pharmaceutical sector and is a vote of confidence in the Irish economy.
