Under fire Irish Water head gets backing of Taoiseach

The Taoiseach has expressed his confidence in Irish Water's Chief Executive.

Terryglass native John Tierney has been under intense scrutiny over the agency's 86 million euro spend on external consultants.

The head of the Public Accounts Committee also wants to question the Tipperary man about his role in the stalled Poolbeg Incinerator project in Dublin – which has cost the taxpayer nearly 100 million euro.

But Taoiseach Enda Kenny says he has every confidence that Mr Tierney is up to the job.
