A UN Committee has called for the Catholic Church to investigate Ireland's Magdalene Laundries and similar institutions.
The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child said the Church hadn't taken measures to prevent a repeat of cases like the Magdalenes – and said those responsible should be prosecuted.
In a scathing report following the questioning in public of Vatican officials last month – the UN watchdog said the Vatican had adopted policies that allowed priests to rape and molest children.
The Vatican is expected to issue a statement on the report later.
The chair of the committee, Kirsten Sandberg, is also accusing the Catholic church of putting its reputation before victims.
