Sheep, lambs, pigs, chickens and cows were all on the menu for the visit to the farm this morning.

Special wellington boots weren't needed as the sun shone.

The FAI or Food Animal Initiative is about building a sustainable food chain.

President Higgins and his wife Sabina were briefed on the farms, before touring and seeing various animals.

Mrs Higgins declared they were both farmers children and took a keen interest in a lamb, nuzzling its face.

She showed similar interest in the pigs, declaring she had read a book called the Pig and that they are wonderful creatures.

The visit continues at an Equestrian Centre in Newbury, before President returns to Windsor for a reception on Northern Ireland and attending an Irish themed concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London tonight.
