Two small schools in South Tipperary are to retain their present teacher allocation.

Both Newtown Upper and Clogheen National Schools had look set to lose teachers next September due to having insufficient pupil numbers.

However according to Labour Senator Denis Landy under a new appeals system both schools were able to prove they did have the required numbers after the cut-off date of September 30th last year.

Clogheen and Newtown Upper are both 3-teacher schools and would have been under severe pressure to cope with just 2 teachers.

Other schools in Tipperary who are appealing teacher losses will have their decisions announced later this week.
