Turf cutting to resume on some banned bogs in Tipp

Several Tipperary bogs are set to benefit from government plans to de-designate some areas where turf cutting is banned.

There are currently 9 raised bogs National Heritage areas in the county and under the new proposals 5 will be fully retained with cutting phased out by 2017.

However 3 will move towards full de-designation and a fourth will be partially reclassified.

Welcoming the planned changes Tipperary Fine Gael TD Noel Coonan says its good news for both turf cutters and the public
