Tributes paid to former Cathaoirleach of Limerick County Council

She passed away at her home in Pallasgreen overnight after being diagnosed with the disease in 2012 – while she was still Chairperson of Limerick County Council.

Mary Harty was elected to the Council on three occasions and was only the third woman to be elected Cathaoirleach.

In a statement the Finance Minister Michael Noonan has offered his condolences to her family.

The current Cathaoirleach of Limerick City and County Council Cllr Kevin Sheahan has described her as a warm and engaging person and a wonderful politician who bore her illness with great bravery, calmness and dignity.
