The five time All Ireland winner passed away yesterday at the age of 87.

He played at full-back in the last Tipp team to retain the Liam MacCarthy Cup – a feat which Michael Ryan's side will try to repeat this year.

Former Tipp hurler and manager Len Gaynor, who played with the Holycross Ballycahill man on the Tipp team in the 1960s, told Tipp Today Mick was a 'formidable player'.

Mick Maher will repose at Hugh Ryans Funeral Home, Slievenamon Road, Thurles tomorrow evening.

He will be laid to rest on Saturday after 10 o'clock Mass in St Joseph and St Brigids Church.
