Transport Minister to be lobbied for extra funding for Tipperary roads.

A delegation of council officials and politicians are set to meet with the Transport Minister to seek extra funding for urgent repairs on some of the worst affected routes.

While Clonmel and the county for the most part escaped the devastating floods and general structure devastation witnessed in a number of neighbouring counties during the hurricane conditions after Christmas – many of the Premier County's roads were badly impacted.

Coupled with an ongoing reduction in central government funding year on year – a delegation from Tipperary is heading to Dublin today to seek extra monies from Minister Leo Varadkar.

It will be headed up by North and South Mayors Ger Darcy and Jimmy O'Brien along with senior officials at both local authorities as well as the county's Oireachtas members.

Given the fact that road conditions and the urgent need for repairs in some areas has been a constant feature on doorsteps as election candidates seek votes – the government’s local representatives will be hoping the funds are forthcoming.
