It’s claimed closing two rail lines in Tipperary would be detrimental to investment in the county.

Irish Rail says closing both the Limerick to Ballybrophy and Limerick Junction to Waterford lines would save them in the region of €10 million a year.

Labour TD Alan Kelly says it would be contrary to the Regional Action Plans for Jobs, the Government’s Action Plan for Rural Ireland and the Government’s commitments in relation to climate change.

He says the loss of services at 9 train stations in Tipperary can’t happen.
