Iarnród Éireann say they don’t have the money to put automatic crossings on the Nenagh – Ballybrophy line.
The company claims it would need more funding for the everyday maintenance and renewal costs than currently provided
If the crossings were automated it would allow for faster trains and more frequent services
Local TD Alan Kelly says there’s more demand for trains to Dublin due to hybrid working and he’s calling on Government Deputies Michael Lowry and Ryan O’Meara to push for this with the government.
Deputy Kelly says people living in North Tipperary should be able to commute to Limerick and Dublin by train at suitable times.
He says many people are working from home but need to spend a few days in the office in either Dublin or Limerick.
