Tipperary is getting a number of the 131 high-powered charging points for electric vehicles which are to be installed over the coming year.

They will be at 17 locations on the motorway network, after a deal was struck with a number of private companies under a Department of Transport scheme.

The Premier County installations are both on the M7 – at Applegreen at Junction 27 and Barack Obama Plaza at Junction 23.

They will be more expensive than home chargers, but would provide motorists with a substantial recharge in minutes.
