The Mayor of Clonmel is demanding that Tipperary County Council pushes ahead with plans to harmonise parking charges across the Premier.
At the moment the parking regimes are different in every town with drivers in Clonmel paying the highest for a ticket.
The local authority has said it will look at harmonising the system for every town and village.
Cllr Pat English says it’s unfair that Clonmel people are still providing almost half of the whole county’s income from the charges.
He says a total of €3 million is collected in charges with €1.4 coming from Clonmel where an hour costs four times as much as Nenagh.
The issue will be debated at a Strategic Policy committee before a plan is brought to the plenary council meeting.
Cllr English says the solution cannot be to bring every other town up to the higher rates charged in Clonmel.
