Waiting lists for driving tests are up to seven months in some parts of the country.
Learner drivers in Navan in Co. Meath are waiting the longest for a test at 33 weeks.
Clonmel has the longest wait in the Premier County at 19 weeks, 17 in Tipp Town, 16 in Thurles with the shortest wait in Nenagh at 14 weeks.
Transport consultant, Conor Faughnan, says learners should be offered a test date within 12 weeks.
“The average wait time now is about 21 weeks nationally and its only supposed to be 12. So that on the face of it looks pretty poor – however if you dig in to it when people are looking for a driving test urgently they can almost always be facilitated. There are a lot of cancellation slots – actually one of the causes of the problem is that there’s so many cancellation slots with people not turning up. So people who are on the list for a long time – it tends to be because it suits them.”
