In 2014, the 44-year-old was working as a courier and his van was parked outside his home on the evening of the alleged murder – May 16th 2014.

Joseph Dunne was living with his family in Athy at the time, and decided to go to Naas that day with some friends.

As they were making their way home, the prosecution claims Mr. Dunne hit Mr. Almasi’s van – a move that led to the owner tearing out of his house armed with a baseball bat.

The jury heard it will be alleged that he struck Mr. Dunne on the head with the bat, and that despite the assistance of his friends, some people from a nearby restaurant and paramedics, he was pronounced dead in hospital shortly afterwards.

The trial is expected to take over two weeks.
