The women – in their 60s and 70s – were swimming at Inch Strand when they got into difficulties shortly after 7 pm.
They were rescued and airlifted to hospital but died a short time later.
The two women – believed to be nuns in their 60s and 70s who were holidaying in the area – were swimming at Inch on the Dingle Peninsula yesterday evening when they got into difficulty.
The alarm was raised by a third woman who was with them shortly after 7 o'clock.
Lifeguards managed to bring the women ashore where CPR was administered.
They were then airlifted by the Coast Guard to Kerry General Hospital in a critical condition – but were pronounced dead late last night.
It brings to three the number of deaths in Irish waters over the past 24 hours – after a man drowned in a boating accident off Schull in County Cork yesterday.
