Proposals to enhance tourism potential in Fethard have been put before Tipperary County Council’s planning department.
Local businessman Vincent Murphy is hoping to provide short term parking for motorhomes on his land to the rear of McCarthy’s Pub and Restaurant in the town.
The plans claim to provide a low cost – low impact approach to testing the demand for overnight stays in Fethard pointing out that there is a major accommodation deficit in the town which is hampering the tourism potential in the area.
The proposals are for 12 motorhome or RV pitches on a site located between the Clashawley River and the medieval Fethard Town Wall.
The application before the Council says the site is only ever likely to operate at peak capacity during summer bank holiday weekends or during local festivals or events.
The pitches will be un-serviced meaning it will be limited to high specification motorhomes which eliminates the need for permanent toilet or shower facilities.
The length of stay would be limited to one week.
A ruling is due from Tipperary County Council by June 26th.
