There’s strong criticism at the erosion of funding for Group Water Scheme’s in Tipperary and across the country.

Independent TD Mattie McGrath has obtained figures from the Department of Local Government which show the national allocation has fallen from over €70 million in 2011 to just over €15 million this year.

In Tipperary alone the funding for Group Schemes has gone from nearly €2 million to less than €750,000 in the space of six years.

Deputy McGrath says recent funding for Tipperary is a mere drop in the ocean.

Funding has also been cut for private well owners in Tipperary in recent years.

Mattie McGrath says the figures from the Department of Local Government show that more and more responsibility is being put on Group Water Scheme operators while they were getting less support from central government.
