Tipperary women suffer few strokes

Fewer women  suffer strokes in Tipperary  than elswhere in the country.
However, 10% more women than men still suffer from the disease  in the county.

According to the Irish Heart Foundation,  the latest CSO figures showed that out of 102 stroke-related deaths in Tipperary, 53 women died compared to 49 men during 2010.

This was considerably lower than the national average stroke death rate which was around 50% higher for women.
In total 1,258 women died from stroke during 2010 out of a total of 2,053 stroke fatalities nationwide.

National Stroke Week  takes place from 16-22 April,
