58 year old Thomas Ryan, with an address at Marlfield, Clonmel pleaded guilty to 10 sample counts of sexually abusing his daughter, Simone Flanagan, between 2003 and 2008 at Clonmel Circuit Court.
The court heard that the abuse began when the victim was just 10 years old and continued until she was 14.
Simone Flanagan waived her right to anonymity because she didn't want her father get away with what he did having ruined her life.
Thomas Ryan pleaded guilty to 10 sample counts of sexually abusing Simone between 2003 and 2008.
He was sentenced to 5 years in prison with the last 18 months suspended.
A number of the incidents allegedly happened at the family home at Wilderness Grove, Clonmel, while others took place at Brook Crescent, Clonmel.
A victim impact report by Ms Flanagan outlined how she still couldn't come to terms with what her father, Thomas Ryan, had done to her.
Speaking outside the court she said the sentence handed down to her father didn't bring her childhood back.
At today's sentencing hearing, Judge Tom Teehan said had her “childhood taken from her” by a person she should have been able to trust.
