New figures show people across the Premier deposited over 18 hundred tonnes of bottles and jars at bring banks so far this year- way ahead of the national average.
To mark Repak Recyling Week – new figures released by Rehab Glassco – show that in the first 8 months of 2015 58 glass bottles and jars were recycled per head of population in County Tipperary.
The national figure stands at just an average of 55.
The busiest site in the county was the Parnell Street Car Park in Thurles with 144 tonnes deposited in the bottle banks provided.
Rehab says these statistics show that recycling is now routine practice for householders across the Premier with a total of1868 tonnes of glass collected for recycling across Tipperary alone in 2015.
However it also warns there are still challenges, most notable being members of the public putting non-glass items such as ceramics and pyrex ovenware in the bottle banks and its urging the public to maintain our great record as one of the best EU countries for recycling .
