The changes will see the abolition of many Town Councils,
along with the amalgamation of North and South Tipp County
Councils.

Fine Gael Deputy Tom Hayes, defended the move, saying it
will lead to increased transparency and efficiency,
by eliminating duplication in the system.

He says the amalgamation of the County Councils alone,
will lead to a saving of 6.15 million.

The plans, announced by the Environmnet Minister this week,
have been opposed by the majority of Councillors in the County.
