Tipperary Senator speaks out on local Government reform

Carrick on Suir based Senator Denis Landy appears to be heading the groundswell of opposition within the Labour Party to possible reform of local government.

Senator Denis Landy has sounded a warning to Local Government Minister Phil Hogan that any proposals to reduce or abolish town councils would result in a reduction of democracy.

Denis Landy, himself a former Carrick on Suir Town Councillor and South Tipperary County Councillor, told the Sunday independent that if Minister Hogan really wants to reform local government then he should curb the powers of County Managers who he says are merely using councillors as rubber-stamps.
