Tipperary prisoner compensated after accident.

A Tipperary man serving time for trying to have his wife killed has been compensated for an eye injury suffered in prison.

Patrick Rafferty from Ballina is serving seven years in jail for trying to get an undercover Guard to kill his estranged wife in 2005.

He is due for release in the coming months.

The Irish Daily Star reports that within the last fortnight the 44 year old was paid around €80,000 in compensation following an incident in Limerick Prison in 2007.

It's understood father of three was emptying a dishwasher when chemicals splashed into his eye leaving him with just 20% vision.
