Meanwhile Chief Executive David Gunning said a new initiative to produce more green homes in Britain will create a spin-off for Coillte.

He said the company earned more than €12 million in revenue from new products last year which underlined the strong emphasis on innovation within the firm.

The media centre at London's Olympic Games has been constructed using MDF timber product from Coillte's Medite plant in Clonmel.

The sub-floor of the Olympic cycling velodrome was made of OSB product from Coillte's Waterford plant. .
