North Tipp TD Noel Coonan arranged for Taoiseach Enda Kenny to perform the launch.

It links counties Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Offaly, Galway, Roscommon, Sligo, Leitrim and Cavan.

Ormond Way in Ballingarry, Roscrea is one of the 12 agreed walking trails on the route while Multeen Tourism Co-Op in South Tipp is also involved in the walkway

As part of the initiative, all walkers on the Beara-Breifne Way will collect stamps in their Walking Passports, based on the heritage of each town and village along the route which they visit.
