Tipperary man avoids jail over Cannabis Growhouse

32 year old Colm Cafferkey, of The Demesne, Roscrea, pleaded guilty of cultivating the drug at a house in Ballymulcashel, Kilmurray, Sixmilbridge, Co. Clare on August 14th 2012.

Sgt. Kevin O' Hagan told the judge at yesterday's sentencing hearing at Ennis Circuit Court that Mr. Cafferkey spent between 5-6 thousand euro of a 23 thousand euro redundancy payment from Dell- where he had worked for 9 years- to establish the grow house.

Counsel for Mr. Cafferkey, Lorcan Connolly said that his client had pleaded guilty, made admissions and co-operated fully with Gardaí.

The judge imposed a suspended three-year jail term.
